I participated in the biggest, baddest & most epic obstacle race in the industry!
On the 22nd of September 2018, Me, ahmad & our friend “Joe” booked a flight to London to attend “TOUGH MUDDER FULL RACE”
Tough Mudder is a 10-mile of mud & 20 obstacles designed to get us out of our comfort zone, challenge us mentally & of course physically. The best thing about this race is that it teaches us what teamwork is all about. Its not about how fast you can cross the finish line, it is all about pushing your limits & accomplishing a new goal.
I was a little worried at the beginning before we started that I wont be able to do all obstacles as I know for a fact that I get really terrified from swimming in dark water color. But once I entered the participant’s zone & with all the energy & music around me I committed to myself that I will do the best I can & I will never look down… (I did look down and it scared the hell out of me).
Let me tell you about some of the obstacles…
We started the race with a 2 km run into the forest & the scenery was EPIC! The first obstacle that tore my tights & got me bruised was the “Kiss of mud”. That obstacle got us crawling over flat land with barbed wire overhead all while hugging the mud coated ground & avoiding the wire above.
**This is not me in the picture.. I am just showing you an example of the obstacles.
One of the funniest obstacles was the “Electric Shock Therapy 2.0” where dangling wires give off an electric shock if you touch them. I was lucky enough that I didn’t touch a single wire BUT I was SCREAMING & laughing the entire time whenever I see someone get shocked. I played it cool & safe & it worked!
The hardest obstacle that affected me the most was the “Arctic Enema 2.0”. It’s simply an ice bath obstacle. We slide into water & then we are asked to get under a wooden chain into the freezing water again. It really sounds easy but weren’t for me all. I really wasn’t scared before going into the water because I have already passed few obstacles that involved cold water.
Once I was submerged into the water I felt complete brain freeze, numbness in my limbs that I couldn’t even lift my arm to seek help & I had sever shooting pain similar to an electric shock sensation. My heart rate elevated rapidly & I couldn’t catch my breath to go under the water again. I had no option except to go under the iced cold water again because I really needed to get out. I felt I was in real danger….
As I gathered my strength and went into the water again, I asked for help & Ahmad managed to pull me out of the water. Started running again slowly until all the symptoms has gone.
One thing I am really proud of was that I attempted to finish every single obstacle, from climbing super sturdy high walls to high water jumps to rolling through slick, rotating barriers. The challenge itself wasn’t physical for me as much as it was mental. Doing things for the first time & having the courage to complete them all was a victory in itself.
I GAVE IT MY ALL & CAME OUT A LOT TOUGHER THAN BEFORE
